Greetings readers!
Things have been busy as usual since we last spoke. My oldest kid has reached the age where I am constantly driving him hither, tither, and yon, and I did a lot of driving in circles last week.

I was able to complete two of the friday night via the Sequential Artists Workshop. I found that drawing a speed really helped with coming up with ideas without overthinking it. The strip I did on sleep is something I will revisit.

As per the title, I have been thinking a lot about zines. I am working on my November zine, reading blogs about zines, being enabled by pinterest to go down all the zine rabbit holes…
One thing that struck me is that zines are not really a solitary pursuit. Ok, making them might be, but they are designed to get out there and reach other people. I have been thinking a lot about how I could create a sense of community and connection with the zine making.
I live in Austin, which is a pretty hip town. Austin Kleon is a resident and I know he makes zines. Here is a video. So how can I find an in-person opportunity? How can I connect with zine makers online? Remember the ATC days? There were so many opportunities to collaborate and swap. I’ll bet it exists…
Other things I am working on:
Illustrated Journal - always1
Polaroid Transfers2 - I was able to find a polaroid camera I could borrow, so that I can experiment without as much of an investment.
Sunflower Painting - on hold while Eloise House gets their building completed and settled.
Community Engagement - now that I am in the city, it is time to find my peeps.
As always, thanks for being here.
Warm regards, Laura
It is never to late to join, we have a small but amazing community and meet over zoom once a week to draw together.
My first passion is photography, and it is what I studied in art school. Not having access to a darkroom derailed that practice, so I moved to drawing and painting, which is more accessible. I still want to do all the photography stuff, and I am thrilled to see film making a comeback.
